Colony Collapse Disorder. The queen lives. The food still stored. The worker bees leave for the gig economy.

Why?

Some say pesticides. And parasites. Some say mono-crops and lack of wildflower diversity. Little nutrition left. So little in fact that the worker bee no longer believes in their field. That the prairie will no longer bloom. That the waving heads will offer no gold.
