One of my favorite things in a forest is life flowing up through decay. Trees topple from storms years ago, long enough that the sap has dried, the wood softened, and yet new branches grow, moss finds a friendly spot in the filtered light. This scene, which could be found anywhere and easily walked past as it is as nondescript as the next, caught my eye. The quiet. The small ripples made me happy for some reason in what you can see is lightly gray day.
